The Best New England Pizza is at Valley Craft Ales
New Haven pizza spots have long held the crown for New England’s best pizza. Some eccentrics even prefer it to New York City’s pizzerias. While, Rhode Island has great pizza, there are some quality slice spots like Nice Slice (RIP the Thayer St location), it’s mostly Sicilian or Grandma Style (Twins is easily the best and worth a visit. A great place to stop when driving through on I-95.). You can’t really make a direct comparison to the thin-crust varieties. And, Boston… well, is Massachusetts even in the fight? (send your Beantown pizza recs to hi@postcardstation.net. We’d love to try some ). And don’t get me started on Lil’Rhody’s dirty pizza secret, bakery pizza. That wasn’t pizza when we were force-fed it in grade school and it ain’t pizza now.
Which brings me back to VCA. The team there is clearly inspired by New Haven pizza but have made it their own. And it’s the perfect complement to their excellent beer lineup. They do have a soft spot for light lagers and pilsner that go down easy with their ‘za. But, the dark beers are just as good. They have a rotating variety on tap and you can find their easy-to-spot cans throughout Vermont.

Spend the Night in a Historic Inn
VCA took over a historic inn on Main St in Wilmington. You’ll drive by it on your way north out-of-town, on the way to Mount Snow. The upstairs is still maintained as an inn, with the first floor the restaurant and stage.
Regular Shows and Events
The VCA stage features regular concerts from local and touring musicians. In the summer, their deck on the river is open and gets a lot of action.
They have been hosting an annual beer festival in the summer and winter. The next one, Buzzed Lightbier is August 29th, focused on pilsners and light lagers.
If you’re staying nearby, the full menu is available for takeout along with canned beer in the fridge.
Parking + Getting There
Parking is right out front. VCA is super easy to find, a couple blocks north of the main intersection in town. You’ve probably been driving by them on your way to Mount Snow, wondering if it’s worth stopping in. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
