Historic Marble Rail Trail

The Historic Marble Rail Trail is a 2.3 mile bike path connecting North Rd to Hunter Park, the rec park (Dana L Thompson Memorial Park) and Manchester Elementary School. Great for walking, biking, running or cross-country skiing in the winter months. It is mostly flat except for a short hill just north of Hunter Park, just south of the picnic table in the meadow.

Hours: Dawn to Dusk

It is a beautiful trail any time of year. Its mostly flat track and maintained surface make it great for all ages and abilities. Definitely a special spot to share with that friend who wants to get outside a bit but doesn’t “hike”.

The trail follows an old rail track that serviced the marble quarries in Dorset. Beginning at the North Rd parking lot, it cuts through forest, open meadows and crosses the Battenkill before connecting to the athletic fields at Hunter Park and then the Manchester rec park.

Be Respectful on Private Property

The trail north of Hunter Park crosses private property and passes through backyards and farms.

  • Dogs are required to be leashed
  • Stay on the trail
  • Only view livestock from afar
  • Trail is closed at dusk
  • Carry-in, carry-out

Bike Manchester asks that users be mindful of this and respect everyone’s property:

The pathway is PRIVATELY owned and borders PRIVATE property. If you use the path by foot, bike, or cross country skis, please respect people’s land and privacy. STAY ON THE PATH. Don’t feed or pet the horses. Take out what you bring in and keep your dog on a leash. Do not use the trail after dusk.

Parking

Parking is worth noting as there are 4 different places to park, the North Rd parking lot, the Riley Rink parking lot at Hunter Park, the rec park and at the elementary school (also, there is a fast EV charger on the other side of the soccer field, behind the Walgreens). All the parking options are free. We usually park at North Rd. The abundant amount of parking is a rare convenience for any trail like this .

Restrooms

Another rare trail convenience is easy access to public restrooms. Rec park bathrooms are open during daylight hours. Riley Rink bathrooms are open even longer, but may vary.
