Now, Onto the Locals in Italy
The 2026 Winter Olympics are well underway and some Vermonters are already hard at work. Jessie Diggins, probably the most well-known Vermonter in this games, finished 8th in her first event yesterday, a grueling 20 km cross-country race. Keep an eye on her, as she has a commanding lead atop of the FIS rankings and a favorite in all of her events. Here’s some more local Vermonters and when you can see them next:
Mac Forehand | https://www.instagram.com/macforehand/
Mac claims Winhall and is a recent graduate of the Stratton Mountain School. He’s a favorite in his events, Freeski Slopestyle and Big Air. Yesterday he qualified for the Slopestyle finals. Give his qualifying run a watch on youtube.
See him next on Tuesday in the Men’s Freeski Slopestyle Final, Feb 10, 6:30 AM ET. Streaming Live on Peacock Should be an intense event with all of the heavy hitters making it through to the finals.
Jess Perlmutter | https://www.instagram.com/jess_shred/
Jess is a current Killington Mountain School student and a new force on the women’s snowboarding Slopestyle scene. She’s had a great season so far. Here’s an interview with her from the Laax Open, the last big event of the season before the Olympics:
Look for her today in the Women’s Big Air qualifications event at 1:30 PM ET. Streaming Live On Peacock, with the finals happening tomorrow.
You will also see Jess Perlmutter in the Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle event, with qualifying beginning Feb 16, 1:30 AM ET. Streaming Live on Peacock, with the finals the following day.
Ben Ogden | https://www.instagram.com/ben.0gden/
Ben is from Landgrove, Vermont, just north of Londonderry. He’s a UVM grad, lives in Burlington and has his own YouTube channel about cross-country skiing. Give it some views while you’re watching him suffer through his grueling cross-country events. I really don’t know how these athletes take on these endurance events. It’s even tough to watch at times. He’ll be competing in 6 events, the first of which is on first thing this morning; probably, while you’re reading this.
Men’s Skiathlon 2/8 6:30 AM EST. Streaming Live On Peacock
Olivia Giaccio | https://www.instagram.com/oliviagiaccio/
Olivia is an alum of Killington Mountain School and grew up skiing at Kilington. She finished 6th in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and is in the running for a medal this time around. She was the first woman to put down the cork 1080 a couple seasons ago. See it in this clip here:
Keep an eye out for that trick when she hits the slopes on Tuesday: Women’s Moguls Qualifying, Feb 10, 8:15 AM ET. Streaming Live On Peacock
If she makes it through to the finals, Olivia will back in action at the same time on Wednesday morning.
