The best coffee shop in Vermont is not a coffee shop.

Tucked away in a well-known nursery off Rt 30 in Dorset, it’s there. Hiding in plain sight. The Mettowee Mint is a year round nursery and their coffee bar/wine bottle shop takes up the hallway connecting their up front retail space with their greenhouse. On rainy days and all winter long, you can enjoy a perfect cup of Carrier coffee in the greenhouse amongst the succulents, indoor greenery and the outdoor plants coming up from seed.

So what makes it a coffee shop worth visiting? Sitting amongst all the greenhouse plants with your perfect cup really is a special moment. I have never experienced a coffee shop in a greenhouse. It’s an obvious pairing, but hard to execute. What a way to savor a delicious coffee or espresso made from Vermont roasted beans. The full coffee bar is staffed by wonderful baristas that serve Carrier Roasting Company, from Northfield. As a coffee nerd, I have been very impressed with Carrier. It’s just as good as any specialty roaster out of the Pacific Northwest.

These snapshots don’t really do the space justice, but are merely representative. You have really got to experience it for yourself.

Stopping by in the winter is a fun change. It’s quiet, but they are busy growing their winter tulips and prepping for spring. Their winter tulips are stunning and now available to ship anywhere: https://mettoweemint.com/collections/winter-tulip-csa

Don’t forget to grab a bottle of wine on your way out the door. Their small wine selection covers a range of fun natural, organic and orange wines. They got the good stuff.
Definitely, comeback in the summer. The sliding doors by the coffee bar are open and you can stock up on all your planting needs after enjoying a moment on the patio.
